We are delighted to share artist and curator Roc Parés‘s text for the catalogue of Gino Rubert’s exhibition “Fatamorgana” on Tecla Sala, where Chema is mentioned:
“I’ve been looking for Chema Alvargonzález for some time now, but can’t find him among the hundred or so of us who inhabit The Opening, (…)
I say goodbye and turning to look for my escape, I seem to see Max Ernst out of the corner of one eye. I would swear he knows Chema’s whereabouts. But, as I don’t speak either German or French, I ask him in English, and he replies: “Once the artist finds himself he is lost” (…)
But, above all, I want to stay well away from the picture in the final room, where the gallery is now empty (…) And to feel that, in some unnoticed corner in one of Gino’s paintings, I can still be reunited with our dear, much-missed friend, the artist Chema Alvargonzález, who died in Berlin in 2009.
