MEHR LICHT (More Light) is the first retrospective exhibition in Portugal of the Spanish multidisciplinary artist Chema Alvargonzalez. (1960 – 2009). Presented by The  NAVE Gallery  and the Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes de Lisboa, with the support of the Spanish Embassy in Portugal, AECID Spanish Cooperation and the Memoria Artística Chema Alvargonzalez.

The Sociedad Nacional de Bellas Artes de Lisboa, where the retrospective will be exhibited, has been a leading art institution in Lisbon since 1901 and belongs to the RPAC - Portuguese Contemporary Art Network coordinated by the Directorate-General for the Arts of the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, Sport, and Youth. The National Society of Fine Arts of Lisbon aims to pay tribute to the artistic work of Chema Alvargonzalez as a reference for current generations of international artists.

From the very beginning of his career, his disruptive and visionary nature, his concept and its materialization, and his idealistic, alert awareness of social, political, cultural, and economic changes in Europe placed him at the forefront of artists of his generation.

Travel and dreams were the main motivation of Alvargonzalez's restlessness.

In his professional life between Barcelona and Berlin, he searched for the improbable, extending his artistic gesture to a changing community and society. His installations, interventions in public spaces, and site-specific works using words and light are still overwhelmingly contemporary today. These works are complemented by an extensive range of photographic work.

In MEHR LICHT (More Light), the selection of works on display conveys the gaze and gesture that Chema Alvargonzalez personified and immortalised in Spanish and international contemporary art.
